We did a great job persevering on each activity and were respectful and collaborative during all of the activiies. I loved seeing how everyone support each other and cheered our crew on.

Community Workers

Our first grade crew has been researching and descrbing community workers. Each child was in a community worker group- firefighter, police officer, mail carrier, veternarian, doctor and dentist. Our students used books, videos and our chromebooks to research their community worker.
Next, students created hats to teach our crew about their community worker. We enjoyed doing a How To Draw.

Sun, Moon and Stars

Our crew has loved learning about the moon and its phases. We created a visual representation of the moon and each of its phases.

Our first graders have been collaborating to research and ask and answer questions about the Sun, Moon and Stars.

Our crew has learned the Moon had volcanos on it at one time, its orbits the Earth and that a fruit fly has been in space.

We have loved being able to observe the moon both during the early morning and at night.

Celebration of Learning

Thank you for coming to our Celebration of Learning! It was such a special evening celebrating your child hard work and their special family members stories.

We loved singing songs about stories and sharing our high quality narratives and portraits.

It was so fun to share our learning with you and teach you how to draw a portrait!

Fun Times in First Grade

We had an amazing field day thanks to Mr. B. He planned some fun activities for our crew to collaborate and persevere on together.

We loved working together, enjoying the warm weather and collaborating to challenge ourselves. Some of our favorite games were Drip Drip Drop, Titanic in the gym and tug of war.

Our crew loves getting together each week with our buddies in Ms. Melissa's fourth grade crew. It has been so fun getting to know each other, read together and do some fun initiatives together.

We collaborated with our buddies to create the longest paper chain using only one pair of scissors, a glue stick and a sheet of paper. It was so fun to see all of the different ideas.

Ms. Judy is our wonderful story teller from Douglas County Libraries Spellbinders. Ms. Judy comes to our crew once a month to tell stories, sing songs and celebrate our learning with each other. Ms. Judy tells wonderful stories that make us laugh and look forward to the next visit.

Crew Promise

Over the first few weeks we have been reflecting on what we need from each other as a crew and how we can show the habits of character at school. Our crew reflected on what we each wanted and needed from each other. We came up with our crew promises.

We promise to be active listeners.
We promise to be kind and take care of each other.
We promise to be focused and do hard work.
We promise to have a calm and safe body.
We promise to be a good friend and include others.
We promise to follow directions quickly and quietly.
We drew pictures of each of our crew promises and signed them. We agree as a crew to follow each of our promises this year.
Before you act, think and be smart. Its hard to fix a broken heart.

We also reflected on the importance of kindness with body our words and our body. We read a great book called Heartprints and reflect on how our words and actions can leave a print on others heart. We are working hard to leave a positive impact on our crew members by saying and doing kind things. We learned how our words can leave a wrinkle on someones heart.
