Reading and Writing- Start of the Year
We have had a great start to the year. Our crew has been working on becoming first grade readers and writers.
In reading we have been talking about readning strategies to solve unknown words. We have discussed sounding out, using the picture clue, finding known parts in words and using what we know about a topic.
We have also been talking about what makes a book just right for them. Just right books are books we are interested in, can read many of the words on a page and can use a strategy to solve the unknown words and we can understand what we read.
In writing we have been wokring on growing as first grade writers by brainstorming topics to write about. We also have talked how writers use their eyes to look around the room to spell, ears to sound out words and heart to spell words we know by heart.
