Celebration of Learning

What a special night! Thank you so much for helping to make the Celebration of Learning such a special night.

Our crew was excited, respectful and thhoughtful during their presentations. I loved getting to see all of you and appreciate how we all supported our crew.

It was wonderful to listen to our crew refelct on their learning and share their work.

Turkey Trot

Thank you Fox Creek Community for another wonderful fundtraising event. Our Crew loved the first Turkey Trot!

Our Crew did a great job perservering to do their best and showing compassion by supporting each other during the run.

4th Grade Y/O buddies

Our first grade crew is Y/O Buddies (younger/older) with Ms. Mellissa's fourth grade crew

We love getting together most friday mornings to connect and read books together.

Tools and Work

Our crew has been learning over the last few weeks about how tools make work easier. We have learned that each teach has a job and helps us.

We also have learned that when working we need the Habits of Character. We have learned through read alouds as well as challenges in class. We have reflected on respect, collaboartion and initiative.

We finally got to collborate in groups to create a magnificent items for our classroom. We then received feedback and revised our work.

Field Day

Play is the work of a child

Our crew had a great time playing at field day. Mr. B planned some great games for all of us. We enjoyed doing the ropes course in the gym, drip-drip-drop, a relay race and many more.

Our crew worked together and showed the Habits of Character through listening respectfulling, collaborating in races and cheering each other on, showing compassion and enjoying our time together.

Reading and Writing- Start of the Year

We have had a great start to the year. Our crew has been working on becoming first grade readers and writers. In reading we have been talking about readning strategies to solve unknown words. We have discussed sounding out, using the picture clue, finding known parts in words and using what we know about a topic.

We have also been talking about what makes a book just right for them. Just right books are books we are interested in, can read many of the words on a page and can use a strategy to solve the unknown words and we can understand what we read.

In writing we have been wokring on growing as first grade writers by brainstorming topics to write about. We also have talked how writers use their eyes to look around the room to spell, ears to sound out words and heart to spell words we know by heart.

Birds

Our first graders are loving becoming ornithologists and learning all about birds.

Students have been researching and observing birds. All of this hard work will help them as they create their own high quality nonfiction bird book.

Our crew had some fun exploring owl pellets to see what they eat.
